Every July, Oundle for Organists invites up to
forty five students to ‘become’ organ scholars in
Oxbridge College Chapels. Last year we went to
Cambridge – this year we shall be guests in Oxford.
If you are aiming for an organ scholarship within
the next two to three years (and there are many
on offer!), then this course really is a ‘must’! The
same applies if you have actually already gained
a university organ award or are serving a gap-year
placement at a school or cathedral. All will gain
huge benefit from the training offered by this
proven and extremely popular course – and
have a great time!
SCOOP!
94% of 2008 Cambridge Organ Scholarships
(that’s all but one) - and 80% of 2007 Oxford
Organ Scholarships - went to Oundle for
Organists students!
Overhaul your organ playing and keyboard skills;
revel in the atmosphere of a collegiate-style choral
world, in which you will sing, conduct, accompany,
play organ voluntaries, learn about liturgy, and
perform three public Choral Evensongs in different
chapels; sing Compline by candelight.
Some of the choral repertoire featured will be
specially commissioned by Oundle for Organists
and premiered at our Oxford services. Prizewinning
young composer Thomas Neal (A level student)
will be contributing a new Antiphon Te Lucis ante
terminum for Compline.
A university organ scholarship is the finest of
musical apprencticeships. There is enormous scope
for dedicated and talented organ students to enter
the music profession via an organ scholarship, by
gaining experience both in the organ loft and in front
of choirs. There are vacancies at Oxbridge and other
universities, in cathedrals and parish churches, in
concert halls, conservatoires and schools; there are |
|
undergraduate and post-graduate placements, plus
numerous gap year and sixth form opportunities all
over the UK and throughout the Anglican world
overseas. Some require organ playing skills of
awesome competence, others appoint musical
motivators who show the necessary skills and
personality to assemble choirs and deliver choral
services. But! a lamentable lack of adequately
prepared young musicians is much in evidence
and positions actually go unfilled.
Join us in Oxford next July and set your sights!
