Scholarships go to Oundle students
(80% in Oxford)

Every July, Oundle for Organists invites up to forty five students to ‘be’ organ scholars at Oxbridge. Last year in Oxford – 2008 in Cambridge.

If you are aiming for an organ scholarship within the next two to three years (and there are lots advertised), then this course is a ‘must’! The same applies if you have actually gained a university organ award or are serving a gap-year placement at a school or cathedral. Everyone gains huge
benefit from the training offered by this proven and extremely popular course.

Under expert and inspiring coaching you will overhaul your organ playing and keyboard skills. You will also gain experience of a collegiate-style choral world, in which you will sing, conduct, accompany, play voluntaries, learn about liturgy, and perform two public Choral Evensongs and a
Choral Mattins in different chapels. You will sing Compline by candelight on two evenings.

Some of the choral repertoire featured will be specially commissioned by Oundle for Organists and premiered at our Cambridge services.

An organ scholarship is one of the best musical apprencticeships you can undertake. There is enormous scope for dedicated organ students to enter the music profession via an organ scholarship. There are vacancies at Oxbridge and other universities, in cathedrals and parish churches, in concert halls, conservatoires and schools; there are undergraduate and post-graduate placements, plus gap year and sixth form opportunities all over the UK and overseas.
Join us in Cambridge next July and lift your game!

Accommodation and Organs
Students and tutors will occupy comfortable single rooms in St Catharine’s College, right in the centre of Cambridge, surrounded by the University’s most beautiful historic buildings. The famous Backs along the River Cam are close by. Meals will be all be taken in College Hall.

Cambridge is a paradise for organists with many splendid instruments all within walking distance. Some reflect 17th and 18th century ideals, others
offer a huge romantic palette, whilst some adopt a neo-classical style. The instruments feature the work of builders such as Harrison, von Beckerath,
Mander, Klais, Kuhn, Létourneau, Lund, Metzler, Frobenius, St Martin, Goetze & Gwynn, and Flentrop.

Travel
Cambridge is served by trains from London Kings Cross and rail access from other points is easily determined. By road: use M11 from London, A14 from the Midlands, and A1S from the North etc. For those travelling from abroad, London Stansted is the airport closest to Cambridge.

Promoters provide travel expenses (within the UK) as minimum remuneration.

Fees and Bursaries
The all-inclusive fee for the 2008 AA, ENR/ST and POS courses is £530 per course. Once we have offered and you have accepted a place, a deposit (£180) will be due by 19 May and the balance (£350) by 16 June. AA in Toulouse should be cheaper - please enquire.
Many students gain financial help from their school/church/local organists’ association. But beyond that, we never like to turn away anyone who really should be benefiting from the Oundle for Organists experience, but who may genuinely find the courses too expensive. Thanks to generous benefactors, trust funds and our link with the RCO, we are often able to subsidise the cost.

Pastoral Care
At all Oundle for Organists courses, pastoral care by experienced staff is a vital feature of the arrangements. POS students in Cambridge will also
work with Anglican College Chaplains who direct the liturgy and sometimes can be pursuaded to join in the social life! All pastoral staff and tutors provide CRB Advanced Notices of Disclosure.
