Residential summer schools for young organists - July 2010
Welcome to Oundle for Organists 2010, and the twenty-sixth year of summer
courses for young organists!
What are we offering? Essentially the same as ever: an intense and wide-ranging experience that marries inspiration and practical help. We don't focus exclusively on organ repertoire; the keyboard and aural skills every organist needs also form part of the curriculum. And the Oundle International Festival, to which all students have a free pass, is a stimulating context in which to set our activities.
The international team of tutors are not only great teachers - they are all brilliant performers too. Their recitals provide a secondary focus for the week, complementing the classes and taking full advantage of the diversity of fine instruments in the area - from the Frobenius in Oundle School Chapel to the legendary Harrison & Harrison of King's College, Cambridge.
As a product of Oundle for Organists (a keen 15 year-old in the class of 1991!), I know all about the transforming effect the Oundle courses can have on a young organist. Thanks to the vision of OfO's founder, James Parsons, and the hard work of tutors and staff over a quarter of a century, many of today's top professional musicians received help at a crucial stage in their development. Why not be next in line?
