Sirinu
Friday 21 September, 8pm
Fotheringhay - St Mary & All Saints
Church
To mark the
300th anniversary of the union
of Scotland and England, leading
early music specialists Sirinu
present music from the famous 'Balcarres
Manuscript', a remarkable collection
of Scottish national music from
around 1700. |
 |
The programme is particularly appropriate
for the setting, Fotheringhay being the
place where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned
and executed; it includes music which
would have been sung by her, accompanied
on the lute by David Rizzio who also
subsequently met an untimely end.
Bringing with them an array of period
instruments, this extraordinarily gifted
group of musicians will demonstrate their
skills on keyboards, recorders, lutes,
hurdy-gurdy, harp, gittern, percussion
and voice.
`Formidably qualified,
multi-talented, full of energy…excellent
and hugely enjoyable' Early Music
