CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE!
Date and Time: Monday 14th December, 6.15pm – 7.30pm
Venue: St. Peter’s Church, Oundle
Oundle International Festival and Oundle Festival of Literature are delighted to announce a special celebration of Christmas in words and music. But this will be no ordinary event – the clue is in the title! – as our passionate view is that taking part can be even better than being in an audience.
Singing lies at the heart of Christmas celebrations. Yet, for all the undeniable beauty of traditional events such as the Festival of Nine Lesson and Carols at King’s College, Cambridge, we rate Slade’s ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ just as highly as ‘Silent Night’!
So while we hope lots of you will come and enjoy listening to a short evening of music, here’s our special challenge - COME AND SING! We are inviting groups from any background – musical and non-musical! – to sing a Christmas song of their choice lasting 3-4 minutes. If you would like to sing and you are part of an existing group just let us know and we will be delighted to provide an accompanist, but if you are an individual who would like to take part do get in touch and we will be happy to find a team for you to join.
Our celebration will also feature readings that reflect on the Christmas season, so here is Part 2 of our challenge – COME AND READ! We would love to hear from anyone who would like to suggest a short reading (3-4 minutes) and who would be prepared to read it to us on the night.
Why are we hosting this event? Oundle and its local area can boast an enviable range of societies, sports clubs, arts organisations, youth groups and businesses. We are proud to host an occasion when these diverse groups can get together to celebrate both Christmas and the local area itself.
But there’s more. We are delighted to announce that you can WIN A CASE OF WINE, generously donated by Amps of Oundle, to enhance your own Christmas celebrations! This prize will be awarded for the most entertaining contribution to the evening and the winning entry will be announced at the conclusion of the event…….but not before everyone has a glass of wine in one hand and a mince pie in the other!
