The first half of this evening’s recital concentrates upon the Baroque, and includes music by Purcell and Handel. This is followed by a complete contrast in the second half, which showcases pieces by 20th century American composers, including Ives, Copland, Barber and Ned Rorem. Linking these two very different periods will be songs and a piano work by Mendelssohn. Derek Lee Ragin, regarded as one of the foremost countertenors of our day and in great demand as a master of baroque vocal style, is accompanied by Christopher Glynn, recognised as an outstanding pianist who performs regularly with many leading singers, including Sir Thomas Allen, Lucy Crowe and Bryn Terfel. |
