This event is all about relaxing with friends, picnics, visiting the bars and food stalls on offer and dancing by starlight, with some of the best music and entertainment you could wish for; it’s a magical combination!
The Preservation Hall Jazz Band is at the very heart of traditional jazz and tonight there is an unmissable opportunity to hear this world famous band, which hails from the venerable music venue in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter. The seven-man ensemble of piano, bass, drums, trombone, trumpet, reeds and banjo plays Dixieland classics such as ‘Basin Street Blues’, ‘When the Saints Go Marching In’ and ‘Bill Bailey’ in a freewheeling, improvisatory style as naturally as the rest of us breathe.
The Jive Aces – ‘the UK’s No 1 Jive and Swing Band’ - are making a welcome return visit, having taken Oundle by storm at the Fireworks Concert in 2006. The huge energy and drive of their music guarantees that everyone from 7 to 70 will be strutting their stuff on the dance floor!
Redbeans ‘n’ Rice parade band plays jazz classics in the style of the street parade bands of New Orleans, complete with an authentic style Grand Marshal and twirling coloured umbrellas. The Band has led many carnival processions (and funerals - think of the iconic funeral procession in ‘Live and Let Die’) and will start the evening off with foot-stompin’ rhythm.
