An appealing programme to end
the week as the Festival draws to
a close. Opening with Strauss’s
witty Till Eulenspiegel, the east of
England’s own Sinfonia ViVA Octet
is joined by internationally celebrated
mezzo-soprano Dame Ann Murray
for Mahler’s intimate and beautiful
song cycle, Lieder eines fahrenden
Gesellen. Schubert’s effervescent
Octet provides a complete contrast;
wash with glorious melodies, it
finishes the concert in sparkling
mood.
