A nod towards the Festival’s English theme in two of the works to be played by virtuosic young pianist Ashley Wass. Framed by the passion of Beethoven’s Variations, and Liszt’s Petrarch Sonnets celebrating a pure and heavenly love, the works of Alwyn and Elgar provide an elegant, very English contrast.
