The Fairy Queen, by Henry Purcell
Sorry, this concert is now sold out. Please phone box office on 01832 275109 for returns

This spectacular production of Purcell's The Fairy Queen is a treat for eyes and ears, a fully-staged fusion of opera, comedy, and even a bit of puppetry, dance and circus, performed by world-class artists. The Fairy Queen is one of Purcell’s grandest creations – a fantastic blend of magic, mystery, passion and tomfoolery loosely based on A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Whether you are a seasoned opera-goer or have never seen an opera before, you will be enthralled.

This production by Armonico Consort has sold out wherever it has been performed and is the perfect introduction to opera for a new generation of music and theatre lovers.

In January 1949 a former music teacher arrives at a dark, doom-laden boarding school for orphans and troubled boys, most of whom receive severe punishments for their faults. When Clément decides to introduce these young delinquents to music - to sing in a choir – he finds that there is more to the children than could have been imagined. A film which combines humour, spirit, understanding and forgiveness, and above all, music.
