This
spectacular production of Purcell's
The Fairy Queen is a treat for eyes
and ears, a fully-staged fusion of
opera, comedy, and even a bit of
puppetry, dance and circus, performed
by world-class artists. The Fairy
Queen is one of Purcell’s grandest
creations – a fantastic blend
of magic, mystery, passion and tomfoolery
loosely based on A Midsummer Night’s
Dream. Whether you are a seasoned
opera-goer or have never seen an
opera before, you will be enthralled.
This
production by Armonico Consort has
sold out wherever it has been performed
and is the perfect introduction to
opera for a new generation of music
and theatre lovers.

Bine, who is Professor of Organ at
The Royal Danish Academy of Music in
Copenhagen, enjoys international acclaim
for her impeccable and historicallyinformed
baroque playing, as many will appreciate
from her emerging CD series covering
all Buxtehude’s organ works.
Her Fotheringhay programme juxtaposes
Buxtehude, Bach and Couperin with the
sparky textures of modern Danish music
by Vagn Homboe.

In January 1949 a former music teacher
arrives at a dark, doom-laden boarding
school for orphans and troubled boys,
most of whom receive severe punishments
for their faults. When Clément
decides to introduce these young delinquents
to music - to sing in a choir – he
finds that there is more to the children
than could have been imagined. A film
which combines humour, spirit, understanding
and forgiveness, and above all, music.
